June Letter 2010

The Malvern View

Already it is June! Time for what will seem like hours of endless sport coverage on the Tele, some people grown at the thought while others positively cheer. With coverage of Wimble don continually during the two week tournament, also fro m the 16th of June until the 11th July we have a certain amount of football going to be on our screens as well. Only 4 years since th e last time the country had  its hopes raised and then dashed, more and more St. George’s flag s appear everyday and adverts for new televisions are continuing at a pace. Wh at this does show is that no matter how we might be feeling or what is going on in our own lives, the world continues on around us at what can seem an incredible pace.

The end of May was marked personally for myself with the anniversary of bei ng i n Leeds for 5 years, on the whole a positive time and a place that as a family we have enjoyed living. But it also means it is nearly 5 years since that awful day when the bombs went off in London and the connections were made with the area in which we live. Many people still feel the pain of that day and it is not an overstatement to say that it changed the world in which we live.

More positively the end of May saw the official opening of the new nursery at Beeston Hill St. Luke’s Primary School, as I said on the day “all things come to those who wait!” and after 25 years in a temporary building what a wonderful new building this community has now been blessed with. It truly is a fantastic building and many people can not but be shocked (in a nice way) by the facilities now on offer to the children attending. I would encourage everyone who passes the building to have a look through the fence and see the outdoor facilities which will give a good idea as to what is on offer inside. Those who are regular readers of the Yorkshire Evening Post will have seen on Thursday 27th May that St. Luke’s has received a further grant of £94,000 towards the work required to replace the roofs to the building. More excitingly is that in this second phase we will be having the high level ceilings redecorated so not only will the church look impressive from the outside it will also look impressive from the inside.

We may well switch the news on and become quite disillusioned by all that is happening in the world around us, but as I hope the sharing of the two local items of good news may well encourage each of you as you read them. Good news for some reason does not seem as news worthy as bad news so we have to look for it a bit harder, which makes it all the more worthwhile to spread.

At times it may well feel that no one around us cares about the gospel or that Jesus came to live on this earth to enable us to have a personal relationship with the living God, to be free of all those worldly things which weigh each of us down at times. Jesus said “I have come in order that you might have life — life in all its fullness.” (John10:10). We only need to believe this, and we will certainly have a different outlook on life.

God Bless &

I hope you enjoy the sports coverage

Chris
